UConn Printer Install Tutorials

Welcome

Hello printer people! This page is here to provide tutorials for installing the UConn DDA Cad Lab printers on your personal computer. If you have any questions, please contact me at greg@gregpurnell.com.

Printers

The Cad Lab is currently equipped with two printers. Once you complete these installation tutorials, you will be able to print wirelessly from anywhere on the UConn campus. You will NOT be able to print from the “UCONN-PUBLIC” wireless network! Please use “UCONN-SECURE” or a different on-campus network.

Install Ricoh Color Laser Printer on a Mac

The following tutorial will describe how to install the Cad Lab’s Ricoh Aficio SP C811DN Color Laser printer on Mac OS X 10.6. ***PLEASE RUN SOFTWARE UPDATE AFTER INSTALLING***

1. Download Drivers

2. Run Installer

Open the .dmg file you just downloaded and run “PPD_Installer_RC4181E3L.pkg”

3. Follow On-Screen Instructions

4. Accept the Software License Agreement

5. Begin the Installation

6. Authorize With Your Credentials

7. Click “Close”

8. Open System Preferences

9. Click “Print & Fax”

10. Click “+” To Add a Printer

11. Click “IP” Tab

12. Verify “Protocol” is LPD

13. Set Address and Name

In the “Address” field, enter exactly: “ddacadlab.printer.uconn.edu”. For “Name” and “Location”, you may choose your own descriptive names!

14. Click “Add” Then “Continue”

15. Done!

Install HP DesignJet Plotter on a Mac

The following tutorial will describe how to install the Cad Lab’s HP DesignJet 500 plotter on Mac OS X 10.6. ***PLEASE RUN SOFTWARE UPDATE AFTER INSTALLING***

1. Download Drivers

Drivers available here:
Drivers for OS X 10.6 or later
Drivers for other operating systems

2. Run Installer

Open the .dmg file you just downloaded and run “Mac OS X HP DesignJet Installer”

3. Follow the On-Screen Instructions

4. Accept the Software License Agreement

5. Begin the Installation

6. Authorize With Your Credentials

7. When Complete, Click OK

8. Open System Preferences

9. Click “Print & Fax”

10. Click “+” To Add a Printer

11. Right-Click In the Empty Space

12. Select “Customize Toolbar…”

13. Click and Drag “Advanced” to the Toolbar, Then Click “Done”

14. Click the “Advanced” Tab

15. Choose “Windows” From the “Type” Drop-Down Menu

16. Set URL and Name

In the “URL” field, enter exactly: “smb://plot@137.99.49.40/Plotter”. For “Name” and “Location”, you may choose your own descriptive names!

17. Choose “Select Printer Software…” From the “Print Using” Drop-Down Menu

18. Select Software

In the search field, enter “HP DesignJet 500″ then choose “HP DesignJet 500+HPGL2 – 42 inches”from the list. Then click “OK”.

19. Click “Add”

20. Done!

Install Ricoh Color Laser Printer on a PC

The following tutorial will describe how to install the Cad Lab’s Ricoh Aficio SP C811DN Color Laser printer on Microsoft Windows 7.

1. Download Drivers (if necessary)

Drivers available here:
Windows 7: NO DOWNLOAD REQUIRED
Drivers for other operating systems

2. Go to “Start” then “Devices and Printers”

3. Click “Add Printer”

4. Choose “Add a local printer”

5. Create a Standard TCP/IP port

First choose the “Create a new port” radio button. Then, from the drop-down menu choose “Standard TCP/IP Port”. Click “Next” to continue.

6. Set IP address

In the “Hostname or IP address” field, enter exactly: “ddacadlab.printer.uconn.edu”. Then click “Next”.

7. Choose a printer name

Choose a descriptive name for the printer. This can be anything you like. Then click “Next”.

8. Click “Finish”

9. Done!

Install HP DesignJet Plotter on a PC

The following tutorial will describe how to install the Cad Lab’s HP DesignJet 500 plotter on Microsoft Windows 7.

1. Download Drivers

Drivers available here:
Drivers for Windows 7 (32-bit)
Drivers for Windows 7 (64-bit)
Drivers for other operating systems

2. Click “Browse” in the Win-Zip Extractor

3. Choose “Desktop” then click “OK”

4. Click “Unzip”

5. When complete, click “Close”

6. Go to “Start” then “Devices and Printers”

7. Click “Add Printer”

8. Choose “Add a local printer”

9. Create a “Local Port”

First choose the “Create a new port” radio button. Then, from the drop-down menu choose “Local Port”. Click “Next” to continue.

10. Enter the port address

In the “Enter a port name” field, enter exactly: “\\137.99.49.40\Plotter”. Then click “OK”.

11. Click “Have Disk…”

12. Click “Browse..”

13. Find the extracted folder on your desktop

Browse to the desktop and find a folder named similarly to “hpdj510wumglen” and click “Open”.

14. Select the file named similarly to “dsgj510.inf” and choose “Open”

15. Click “OK”

16. Choose “HP DesignJet 500 42+HPGL2 Card” and click “Next”

17. Choose a printer name

Choose a descriptive name for the printer. This can be anything you like. Then click “Next”.

18. Click “Finish”

19. Done!
